Barbara Hemphill, DMin, OTR, FAOTA, FMOTA, focused her career on the development and use of assessments in psychiatric occupational therapy, including the creation of the BH Battery. She dedicated herself to integrating the practices of occupational therapy with those of mental health, which she found to be a neglected area of research. Her work centered on mental health assessments, and she published widely on that topic. During her time as chair of AOTA’s Ethics Commission, she oversaw a revision of the Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics, and she advocated to the Representative Assembly for the inclusion of social justice in the association’s official documents.
